Pentax K1000 // Film Load Failure
by June Ann D'Angelo
So I shot my first roll of film using my Pentax K1000 and reviewed the film and fell in love with the camera. Now, I have a model set up to do some rooftop yoga poses and I'm ready to load Mr. PK (my name for him now...yes it's a boy!!!). We finished the first roll and I tell the model that this shouldn't take too long, but I might need help. Everytime I would delicately push the film in the slot, it would just totally unwind when trying to advance the shutter. After a few text messages back and forth with my buddy, Steve Yancey, I figured out that delicate was not the way to go. Film cameras are sturdy and hardy and Mr. PK needed to have that film slammed in that slot. Needless to say after about a 17 minute freakout session on a cold rooftop, I figured it out and kept shooting. Now, I know, without-a-doubt, how to load Mr. PK and can't wait to shoot more. For all the film photographers that totally mucked their first attempt at loading a new camera, I hope you get a slight chuckle out of this video.
